Learning a new language may be a difficult and challenging task. However, once you understand the concept or comprehend the language, you will obviously enjoy learning it, and you may also come across many new things that help you improve your knowledge. This article presents tips on learning a new language.
1) Study everyday
Setting aside some time everyday for studying is a good idea especially when your brain is more active. If you are planning to set aside an hour a day, break it into sessions to avoid overloading your brain. You need not worry about completing or finishing the lesson, and the things you are working on. Do as much as possible in the time available.
2) Revise/review regularly
Go through each and every lesson thoroughly once or twice a day. Make sure that the gap between your study periods are not too long like more than two weeks, as you will forget what you are learning.
3) Build solid foundation
Make sure that you are comfortable and know the fundamentals of the language before handling the advanced stuff, as it will take some time to understand and pronounce the new language. Without understanding the basics and fundamentals of the language, you will find difficult to move ahead.
4) Focus on your interest
Once you get the grip on the basics of the language, learn to talk, read and write things you are interested in. This helps you in remembering the words, phrases and grammatical construction you encounter.
5) Don’t discourage yourself when there is apparent lack of progress
Sometimes you may find that there is a rapid progress in learning while sometimes you seem to be standing still or even going back in learning. This is common and normal when learning a new language, so don’t discourage yourself. When you feel that you are making very less or no progress, try to go back to the previous exercises/lessons to see whether they are now easy than when you tried it for first time.
6) Don’t worry about making mistakes
You probably make mistakes when speaking your own language, so it is obvious to make mistakes when learning a new language and is nothing to worry about. If you have a tutor or native speaker for helping you in your studies, ask them to point out and correct your mistakes. Even after acquiring the degree of fluency, ask your tutor or native speaker to comment on all your errors.
7) Have fun
It will be a good idea for finding ways to make language learning fun. This can involve song, stories, jokes, tongue twisters and anything that you can think of.
