Roof Leaks-Prevention and Repair Tips

A leaking roof affects the condition of a building and slowly deteriorates the building. Roofs must be inspected to ensure that it is in a good condition. Roof is an important part of a home but is often neglected. A properly maintained roof which is clean and free from debris is less likely to leak. Some tips for roof leaks prevention and repair are:

  • Chimneys are more prone to leaks and this which becomes a problem. The chimney leaks can be repaired by peeling off the old, dried caulking and roof sealants from the base of the chimney.
  • Inspect the flashing area and check if there are any cracks or damage. Replace flashing as needed.
  • Leaks can occur in the asphalt shingle fields. Inspect the shingle fields for any cracks, mineral granules wear off, misplaced tiles, etc. They must be replaced quickly and easily depending on severity of roof field leak.
  • Gutters and downspouts are major causes of roof leaks. The water cannot be properly discharged if the gutters have debris or the downspouts are clogged. Gutters should be cleaned on a regular basis. The debris and moss from the roof can be removed with a pressure washer and power washer respectively.
  • Inspect the roof vents and ensure that there are no blockages and are operated correctly to provide ventilation to the house.
